Straightforward, sometimes philosophical, In Black and White features tales such as At Twenty-two , in which an old and blind miner must find his way out of a flooded pit; The Judgement of Dungara , in which a missionary battles against the malice of the High Priest; and The Sending of Dana Da , in which an Englishman meets a quirky independent experimenter . Snapshots of social and political life in the British Raj, this collection throws into sharp relief the uneven relationships that developed between the ruler and the ruled.
